Eurotech Frameless Shower Glass

Tempered glass is safety glass regularly used in applications in which standard glass could pose a potential danger. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than standard glass and does not break into sharp shards if it is caused to fail. This eliminates the danger of sharp edges. Due to this property, along with its strength, tempered glass is often referred to as safety glass. Tempered glass is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder than normal glass.  
The thermal process that cures tempered glass also makes it heat resistant. In addition to tub enclosures and shower doors, tempered glass is used to make the carafes in automatic coffee makers and the windows in ovens. Computer screens, skylights and door windows are other examples of places you will find tempered glass.  
Tempered glass is made by heating standard glass until it is soft and pliable, about 1200 degrees, and then quenching it with cold air. The outside surface area of the glass cools first and solidifies. As the inside core area starts to cool it tries to contract or shrink in size but it can't because the outside skin has already become rigid. This makes the glass very strong. Once made, a piece of tempered glass can't be modified. You can still get minor chips and scratches in the outside surfaces and edges, but you can't cut or drill it without the glass breaking into small pieces.
